So as most of you might know, I am leaving to Europe for an entire month in just a few days! If you didn’t know why – it is to study abroad. I’m so blessed to be offered such an opportunity to travel there and study. I’ve heard many alumni’s say if they could go back to college, they would have taken the opportunity. So if you’re still in school and the offer is available… take it!
ARE YOU EXCITED?
My number one question I’ve been getting asked is, of course, the obvious, “Are you excited?” and if you want me to be completely honest with you.. I’m not lol ….yet! I’m more nervous and scared right now. I think/hope once I get there, I’ll be able to relax a bit more and enjoy the experience. But as of now, all I can think of is that dang movie Taken! Laugh all you want but imagine leaving to Europe, a country you’ve never been to before, for an entire month ALL BY YOURSELF.
It still hasn’t hit me that I’m leaving. I think the night before is when it will finally settle in. I have not even started packing LOL I don’t know how I’m going to do it. I take a carry-on suitcase and a backpack for just a weekend trip, I cannot imagine what I’d want to take for a month! I’m such an over-packer, I pack waaaay too many shoes and purses. It doesn’t help that they charge for luggage so I really have to limit myself. Then I imagine little ol’ me trying to get all of my luggage from that horrible carousel, I can already see it. I’m going to see my luggage, run to it because it’s going away from me, I’m not going to be strong enough to pull my heavy luggage off of that horrible carousel so I might just have to stand in it to lift it, I’ll finally have my luggage out of that circle of anxiety feeling better now that I have it all and then I’ll realize the luggage I walked away from is now gone LOL these are the thoughts that run through my head yall.
I can leave for the weekend with my girlfriends on a road trip and I will be homesick 2 hours into the drive. It’s pretty sad how fast that feeling can hit me. I’m definitely going to miss my boyfriend, family & church! I talk to my mom pretty much every day, my church is my home and my boyfriend is obviously the most important person to me. We’ve never been away from one another for more than 4 days so yeah this will be new to us. Thank God for facetime & wifi!
I still have so many questions just days before leaving! I’m the biggest over-thinker you’ll ever meet so I have questions on euro’s, converters, what to do, where to eat, how does the bus work, is wine really cheaper than water? do they sell nacho cheese Doritos there? haha. No, but really, I hear they really do only eat, bread, cheese, wine and very few meats. Now I was born and raised in Texas where EVERYTHING is bigger, especially our appetite. Our servings here are not small so I just might come back hungry & skinnier. The bread I can do because I’m such a carb lover! As for cheese and meats.. ehhh they’re alright. I’m sure I’ll grow to love them a bit more once I’m there. There is nothing I love more than trying new food (that looks and tastes appetizing of course) so I can’t wait to see what they have to offer.
None the less, of course, I am SO excited to just be there and be settled in. I hope I make a friend on the first day so I can have someone to actually explore with. I don’t mind exploring new places and trying new things alone but when you’re in a country you’ve never been to before, I think I’d prefer to have someone tag along. Traveling to a country by myself is definitely going to help me grow as a person. I’m going to keep you all updated week by week as I’m there so stay tuned for future posts. I hope this one didn’t come off too depressing or dramatic! I’m a huge joker and extremely sarcastic if you haven’t been able to tell by now. I hope you got a good laugh reading this post and if you have any tips or suggestions, please comment down below! I’d love to read them!
